Box Leg Table was one of 3 pieces commissioned
by a client, the other 2 being a chess table and TV bench. The 3
pieces were all to be made from Grey Ironbark, a favourite timber
of the client. Each piece was to reference the others, whilst displaying
its own unique personality. The commission was intended for a new
house, so the location of all pieces and the proposed architecture,
materials and colours of the house were all considered carefully
during the design phase.
Box Leg Table is simple in form and built from a single timber species.
Detail occurs in the prominent joinery, which includes finger joints
on the edges of the "box" legs and endgrain inlays in
the table top. The table was designed for large family gatherings,
with seating all the way around.
