En Passant Table was one of 3 pieces commissioned by a client, the
other 2 being a dining table and TV bench. The 3 pieces were all
to be made from Grey Ironbark, a favourite timber of the client.
Each piece was to reference the others, whilst displaying its own
unique personality. The commission was intended for a new house,
so the location of all pieces and the proposed architecture, materials
and colours of the house were all considered carefully during the
En Passant Table like the 2 other pieces of the commission, is simple
in form with detail occuring in the joinery and inlays. The table
was designed as a coffee table for a keen chess playing family.
A removable box used for storage of the chess pieces slides in and
out of one end of the table. En Passant is a sneaky move made (in
passing) only by a pawn.
